The Home

The Martin TrustThe Martin Residential Trust Home is situated on the grounds of St. Brigid's Parish Church in Glengormley, approximately 8 miles north of Belfast. The purpose built building has been specifically designed to meet the special needs of all our residents.

Each person has a private room and the residents are looked after by a very caring staff. Two rooms are set apart for very special purposes. They are the ‘Respite Rooms’ where parents requiring a rest can have their loved ones looked after in the certain knowledge that they will be lovingly cared for. They have proved to be a very valuable facility and have brought much help and relief to many parents over the years.

We also provide a Family Room for relatives to use during visits if they wish. It also provides sleeping facilities for the family should a resident be unwell.

We have specially adapted bathrooms and toilets, a splendid Dining-Room and Lounge area. One very special feature of the whole project is our Jacuzzi. This is enjoyed as much by the staff as it is by the residents.

We have a Day Centre, which enables us to move our residents into a different environment. The Centre is fully equipped with items such as musical toys, a soft play area, a computer with a touch screen and other equipment, which goes a long way toward stimulating our ‘Family’.

Out Multi-Sensory Room is equipped with a heated water bed, and with the use of special lighting and soft music it creates a very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

In the centre of our facility is a State of the Art Conservatory. Built to a very high specification, it is large and beautifully furnished, providing a bright and spacious place of relaxation. Pupils from Glengormley High School recently decorated the walls of the conservatory with a beautiful meadow scene. Click here to view some pictures.

Our recent additions to the Home are an extension to the laundry room, and a new office for our nursing staff situated beside the main lounge. The former nurse's office has been redecorated and re-registered as an additional bedroom, which will increase our numbers to nineteen.

Outside, we have a 'Sensory Garden' and a patio area which is enjoyed during spring and summer, and a wonderful Wheelchair Swing which can be used all year round with the help of two large canopies providing shelter in all types of weather.
